Meet Iram.

Iram is pictured here with Roshni, Vice President of AMDG Community, and Michael Francis.

Iram is the first trainee under AMDG Community’s Tailoring Project.

Iram is a mother of four children. Her husband, like many men in their village, earns day wages labouring in agriculture. The family’s income is subject to the seasons.

AMDG Community’s Tailoring Project came from an idea first raised by the local Catholic Bishop in a request made to Michael personally to support a push to create opportunities for women to earn an income from home.

The Project creates an opportunity for women to train in tailoring under Michael’s tuition, for three months. During that time, they earn a wage and, after a successful training period, they are provided with a sewing machine so that they can work from home.

The local bishop understood the principle that alleviating intergenerational poverty means providing opportunity. Opportunity for additional family income creates opportunities for better education, improved living standards and more cash circulating in the local economy. As Roshni points out in the video, this all generates a ripple effect for the good into future generations.

Michael Francis understands this principle well. His own one-man business found the support of a donor about four years ago. Michael now employs up to nine people in his shop, including two people living with disability. He is keen to continue to train more women and to provide more opportunities.

Five hundred dollars is all that is needed to place another trainee. This goes towards wages, incidentals and the purchase of a sewing machine.

This small but significant investment, as with all the works of AMDG, is and will continue to change lives.

As this news is announced, AMDG is in a position to sponsor the next trainee. Please help us continue this important work.

Please give it your support.
